Ants

Throughout the month of September, we studied ants. I learned about "research," "references," and "bibliographies" as we read about ants and worked on my shutterbook. I memorized Proverbs 6:6-8, and Mommy helped me with my shutterbook. Here are some pictures of my shutterbook and the ice cream ants we made. (You can click on any picture to see a bigger one.)

Ant Shutterbook

(Mommy had to do a lot of the writing, but she used my words, except for the Bible verse, the bibliography, and the vocabulary list.)

*The life cycle wheel came from KizClub.com. It did not include ants, so Mommy traced the outside of the sections onto blank paper for me to draw on.

Ice Cream Ants

Mommy got the idea for ice cream ants from one of her friends online. There are three scoops of ice cream for the three parts, with Magic Shell on the outside for the exoskeleton. (Mommy didn't do a very good job with the Magic Shell.) The legs were supposed to be pretzels (but we couldn't find only a few) and the antennae were supposed to be string licorice (which we couldn't find anywhere), but we used toothpicks. We used chocolate chips for the eyes.

pupa, adult
I thought that Mom's ant would be an adult and mine would be a pupa, before I knew we had something to cover them with.
